unlimited advice and friendly conversation from trained volunteers
cuts, shampoo and sets are offered by volunteer certified stylists. These stylists are not always available. Please call the Volunteer Office at 432- 8334 to confirm when they are scheduled.

Hours of Operation:

The Hairdressing Salon is open Monday to Thursday from 09:00 to Noon, and Wednesday from 9:00 - 3:00 pm.

Who Can Use This Service?

This service is provided for cancer patients (both inpatient and outpatients) with inpatients having first priority. This service is not provided to family members of cancer patients.

Do I Need to Make an Appointment?

The salon operates on a walk-in basis but bed-side service is also available. Please plan to arrive no later than 11:30 (except for Wednesdays, arrive no later than 2:30 pm).

What if I'm here on Friday?

If you are interested in a wig, volunteer receptionists in the Volunteer Services Office may be available to assist you. They can show you the wigs but are not trained to fit or style wigs. Other services such as washes, cuts, etc. are not available.

What does it cost?

There is no fee for this service - however, donations are gratefully accepted and used to continue this service.

What Qualifications do the Hairdressers have?

Certified hairstylists volunteer their time to provide shampoos, sets, cuts, and stylings for our patients. Other volunteers assist in the running of the salon.

Wigs

are offered on a loan basis
each patient can have the use of one wig
please wash your wig before returning it to the Institute

Care of your wig

When it is necessary to wash your wig, treat it like a delicate piece of lingerie. Wash your wig in warm water with a mild shampoo. Rinse in warm water to which a small amount of creme rinse has been added. After rinsing, roll the wig in a towel to remove excess water. Shake it and hang it on a bottle or lay on a towel to dry.

HeadWear

There is a variety of headwear for sale in the Gift Shop located in the main reception area. For further information please contact the Volunteer Services Department at 432-8334.
