The Alberta Breast Cancer Program will provide consultation and specialized treatment for breast cancer patients in the province of Alberta. Upon completion, appropriate follow-up will be arranged in accordance with the Program’s Follow-up Guidelines. The intent is to ensure a standard of consistent practice, in the cancer agencies and the community, for Albertans. Patient: Patients will be advised that the family doctor is their primary medical caregiver. The ABCP team will provide specialized consultation services and treatment recommendations, while maintaining regular correspondence with the family doctor. Physician:
Upon completion of specialized therapy, family physicians will be advised the patient is returning to their care, with information provided by the ABCP regarding recommended follow-up care. Family physicians are encouraged to contact the treating oncologist at any time with concerns regarding the patients’ care or symptoms. Website: The Alberta Breast Cancer website
(www.albertabreast.com) is intended as a resource for both physicians
and patients.
